Come on Sunshine Coast Schools, Rocky Trail Academy is coming to Sugar Bag and we’re ready to absolutely send it!
Due to popular demand, this is a 2-day event. Primary (Y5-6) and Junior (Y7-8) are racing on Thursday; Intermediate (Y9-10) and Seniors (Y11-12) are racing on the Friday.
The Rocky Trail Academy is all about fostering the grass-roots development of the cycling sport and are part of our junior rider development program.
Geared towards secondary school students these events are held on a Friday for girls and boys categories in Year 7+8 (Junior), Year 9+10 (Intermediate) and Year 11+12 (Senior). They not only engage youth in healthy social and active recreation but brings a heightened appreciation of nature, the environment, self-reliance , self-learning and independence, all as part of riding a bike in the outdoors.

This race is for high school students, fostering a love for cycling in a fun and friendly environment. Experience the thrill of competition with 3 timed stages and 5 runs per track to find your fastest time per track.
The three distinct tracks catering to different abilities, riders can find their flow and challenge themselves at their own pace. With a focus on endurance, speed, and technical skills, there’s a track for everyone – the Academy is the perfect stepping stone into the world of mountain biking.
Riders compete for grade-based category podium positions for girls and boys – Year 7+8 (Junior), Year 9+10 (Intermediate) and Year 11+12 (Senior). Racers also earn points for their school, competing for the Champion School title. The flexible format, with no strict start orders, allows for a relaxed and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Held on Fridays, these events not only provide exciting racing experiences but also engage youth in healthy outdoor recreation. Rocky Trail ensures a smooth and enjoyable event for everyone, making it easy for schools to participate.

Race For Free in Queensland!
This year, we are officially a registered provider for the Queensland Government’s Play On! Sports Voucher program, making it easier than ever for QLD students to hit the trails at our local events.

Tracks Guide
Intermediate and Seniors (Friday) will race “BeezKnees”. This technical track includes rock drops and man made features and is a lot of fun. 800m long and drops 30m
For Juniors and Primary (Thursday) we have created a track that starts on “Milky Way” and drops into “HONEYCOMB” . 1km long and drops 20m
All categories will race “Syrup” starting on the “Milky Way” near the water tank riders will then drop into the ever popular flow track. 1.1km long and drops 25m.
All categories will race a shortened loop through the “Party Mix”. 1.4km long and basically flat.

Volunteers Needed!
Volunteers are critical to the success of the event so please make sure you’ve signed up! Parent or teacher volunteers are required across both days and roles include bike based and course marshalling.
Bring a Bike or chair, jumper and sunscreen, wear walking shoes and prepare a loud cheering voice to encourage the kids out on track. Come and have a great day in the outdoors!

Entry Fee
- Entry is $60.00 per student
- Open to all school students.
- Entry fee includes all rider photos ( via link to download post-event)

Primary Schools can only attend on Thursday with Year 7 & 8 Secondary students.
*Secondary Schools results will be aggregated across both days with podium presentations held on Friday.
No onsite parking , therefore we have created a Stop, Drop and Go zone for all riders to utilise. Arrive early to allow enough time to park and return to the event hub for registration and racing.
Offsite Parking areas available are:
- BEST OPTION – 60 parks available onsite at the bottom entrance gate accessed via the industrial estate, – head to Hitbikes on Mark Rd E and enter in through the gate. 600mtr walk up to the event hub.
- Caloundra High School Carpark – 1km walk along footpath
- Additional Parking is available on Bower St and at the sporting facilities there.
- NO parking allowed in Lawman /Hans Street – please respect the local residents

Event parking will be detailed in the rider brief. School buses/trailers please email jo@rockytrailentertainment.com to secure your spot.

Declans onsite café will be operating all weekend from 5.30am until 2pm each day.
Please note there is NO BBQ operating .
